Parekraf Agency - Kemenkumham Holds Intellectual Property Guidance for Jakpreneur

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Agency teams up with Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) to launch Technical Guidance (Bimtek) to Improve Intellectual Property Understanding in a hybrid way at Bidakara Hotel and online via Zoom meeting, on Thursday (11/18).

It was participated by five Jakpreneurs who had passed curation, namely, one Jakpreneur in the culinary sector, three craft and one in the arts (dance studio).

To support it, there were some speakers presented, namely Jakarta Law and Human Rights Agency Head, Ibnu Chuldun and representatives from young entrepreneurs, Jakarta Intellectual Property Ambassador, Danu Sofwan. Both shared material on the Importance of Intellectual Property Protection in Increasing Economic Value for MSMEs.

Creative Economy Division Head, Helma Dahlia expressed, MSMEs are national economic actors who play an important role as a contributor to most of the state's income. Hence, it was necessary to make intellectual property protection for them.

It was important to provide added value and privileges held by MSMEs thus it should be promoted in order to create products that can compete globally.

"One of the important intellectual property for MSMEs is a brand. Brands show identity and distinguish one product from another, making the characteristics, image and reputation of a product. This is important to license as it can be a source of income through royalties," she expressed.

She explained, Jakarta became the center of the economy both nationally and internationally. Unfortunately, MSME's intellectual property awareness is still very low, as most have not been motivated to make intellectual property protection which includes copyrights, trademarks and industrial designs.

"Cooperation with various parties is needed to guarantee their intellectual property, one of them with Kemenkumham," she explained.

Besides providing intellectual property protection services at regional offices, he added, cooperation was also conducted with several community groups and malls to provide services through programs that explained the importance of registering copyrights and trademarks.

"Hopefully, they can be motivated to develop their business to be successful. Thus they can expand not only between provinces but also countries," she hoped.
